THICKENERS
ANOTHER *F.E.S. SERVICE:
THICKENERS FOR THE DYSPHAGIC.
Thickened drinks are required by people with swallowing
difficulties or dysphagia, and are generally recommended by
Speech Pathologists, Dieticians or Nutritionists.
Gluten free thickeners are also of assistance to Coeliacs
in the preparation of foods - especially when baking bread,
cakes and cookies.
Most people require 6-8 glasses of fluids daily - two
drinks with each meal and one between meals as a snack. Drinks
may be prepared in advance and refrigerated for up to 24
hours.
A. *FES - PREGEL - WHEAT
STARCH
*FES - PREGEL - WHEAT STARCH is lightly oxidised to
ensure a bland flavour, and is a high quality food grade
Pregelatinised wheat starch, providing both energy and CHO
contribution to drinks. There may be a slight variation from
batch to batch. It ought to be mixed for at least 30
seconds.
B *FES SUPER GUAR
GUM.
*FES - SUPER GUAR GUM is an off white Vegetable Gum with
a bland taste. *FES SUPER GUAR GUM is a free flowing powder,
& is soluble at ambient temperatures. It has a neutral
taste and gives negligible nutrient contribution. It
thickens with time and refrigeration. Full viscosity is
reached after 24 hours. *FES SUPER GUAR GUM must be blended
for specifically 30 seconds. Because *FES - SUPER GUAR GUM
is gluten free, it is recommended also for use by
Coeliacs.
